As a Jays fan, I really needed that win. 14 runs, 22 hits, and get this… a great outing by A.J. Burnett. Burnett hasn’t been feeling real good recently, with the media jumping on him like O’Reilly on Franken. Everyone has been talking about him opting out of his contract to go elsewhere, when he never expressed a desire to do so. Ricciardi called him out last year for wanting to sit out when he had pain in his shoulder. Let’s face it, Burnett will never be a Halladay. He’s just a good pitcher and he’s trying his hardest. If he really wanted to leave, he’d be busting his ass to put out the best numbers of his career so he can negotiate a contract. He’s not struggling for the fun of it. Seriously. And who is going to take his spot should he be traded? Purcey? Parrish? Downs? Either might do, but there is no obvious choice.
Now, on to other matters.
J.P. Ricciardi, who from now on will be referred to as Clown, has now apparently lied about apologizing to Adam Dunn. I’m trying real hard to feel sorry for this guy, but he just seems to be getting more smug, less honest, and just plain annoying. I don’t think Jays fans would have such negative feelings towards him had he been a little more diplomatic and honest in the media, because he hasn’t been as bad as the perceptions of him suggest. But this is a club that has forgotten who pays the bills. It seems like not only does Clown disregard the concerns of fans, he actually has contempt for them and gets angry when they actually make suggestions and question his track record. My grandpa says he looks and dresses like a mobster. I don’t care how he dresses, he’s still a clown.
