I’m dead serious, here. I’ve wanted to do this for a while, but I just haven’t gotten around to doing it. But now seems like a good time. One of my friends is going on an all natural diet, which is way harder than anything I’ll have to do, so I have no reason to whine about it. Also, some fellow TCCA members are doing it too. What better time to do it than now, after binge eating at Thanksgiving dinner?

I’m not going to be on any particular diet plan. This is not a diet, but a long-term change in the way I eat. I am going to stop eating out completely, unless there are reasonably healthy items on the menu. I’m going to cook almost all of my own meals, and when I do eat fast food, it’ll be Subway or a pita.

Why do this? I haven’t been a big guy my whole life. When I was a kid, I played center field. I’m serious. There was a time where I was reasonably quick and could handle the glove. Now I can’t catch anything that isn’t hit within 40 feet of where I’m standing. There’s gotta be a better way than this. Not to mention, I am tired and I feel horrible almost all the time.

So here’s my pledge: I’m going to lose 30 pounds. I’m not going to put a time limit on it, because changes like this take time to work. There’s no way I’m dropping ten in a single week. I know this. And I’m not going to cut out everything that is remotely unhealthy. But I’m putting it out there and saying it in front of y’all. If I fail, I’ll look like an idiot. And I certainly don’t want that, do I?

If anyone else out there wants to do the same thing, join me! Reply to this post and say that you’re going to do it. This isn’t a diet, it’s just being aware that you’re eating crap and that there is a better way to live.
