Finally, the Rays held on long enough to win this series! It took a bit of luck and a gamble, but it paid off big time in David Price. Damn, that guy is good. He is going to have a great career if he avoids getting hurt (which is a pretty hard thing to do when you’re throwing 96 mph).
I’m really glad to see the Rays make the World Series. They’re a very small market team with a small but dedicated fan base. Most of their key players were developed in their own system, or were acquired in trades by using quality players they developed as bargaining chips. They’re young, they’re energetic, and they’re easy to cheer for. And they want that ring bad.
A lot of people have been saying that the Jays now have a much more difficult job ahead of them, with 3 strong teams in the AL East to fight against. Personally, I take more optimism than pessimism from the Rays’ success. They finished last in 2007, and came back to capture the pennant in 2008, in the hardest division in the league. If that’s possible, anything is.
I really hope the Jays can retool for next year and come back stronger. But until then, GO RAYS!
