I haven’t updated in a few days, so I thought I’d just dump some new stuff on here for the people who are actually reading my blog. Thanks, by the way.

The Jays won today, 1-0, making the Braves’ record in one run games even worse. I think out of 25 games this year which were decided by one run, the Braves are 4-21. I think that kind of luck should make us Jays fans feel really lucky. But let’s not ignore what got us there. Burnett was stellar. Whenever the Braves had something going, he took it up a notch and got the strikeout. With the stuff he has, if one day he were to figure it all out and have his 2- and 4-seam fastball, curve, and change all working, he’d be absolutely on fire. I’ve always thought the guy got a bad rap in the media, and I honestly hope he doesn’t opt out of his contract, but if he’s going to, somebody sign Parrish quick!

Saturday night I saw Mindless Self Indulgence at the Kool Haus. Absolutely one of the most entertaining live bands I’ve ever seen, thanks to the antics of vocalist Jimmy Urine. His childish humour feels liberating in the sense that it pulls you out of the shell of seriousness you’ve built up from years of conditioning for school and the workplace (though whether or not I’ve actually grown up is debatable). It seems like with every concert I attend, I feel more and more alien compared to the fans. I’m 23, which makes me at least ten years older than everyone waiting in line around me. I didn’t have any bunny ears, Pokemon belt buckles, fairy wings, or goth kits from Hot Topic. I also didn’t know that jeans were out and fishnets were in. Excuse me for being ignorant of the dress code. I guess I should also mention the opening bands, who weren’t bad. Julien-K is a side project of the guitarists in Orgy, and they played some pretty catchy 80s-influenced techn-rock. They also gave CDs away free, I wish I got one. The Birthday Massacre is a Toronto-based group playing more straight-up rock with electronic tones and female vocals. I’m listening to them on their myspace page right now, and honestly, I’m disappointed. They rocked hard live, but their recordings leave a lot to be desired. Check out “Red Stars”, but imagine the opening riff rocking your face off. I guess that’s how production works: with heavy metal music, you want to maximize the balls, but with alternative rock you want to remove the balls so the masses will like it. Enough of this, I say. Time for some more balls in rock music.

What else? I’m starting to get ready for the 2008 Running of the Bulls. For those who aren’t in the know, this is the yearly summer classic for the Taurus Car Club of America. Dearborn is going to be hit hard by so many Fords that… well, nobody will really notice because there are so many Fords in Dearborn already, what with Ford Motor Company being headquartered there. Before then, I’ve gotta check out the front end to make sure everything’s good for the 5 hour drive to South Haven, and then 3 hours to Dearborn (and 3 hours home). Hopefully I can get the a/c fixed too, because it’s getting hot out there.

Yeah!
